A World of Information about Australian Wine
Australia is a huge country with a land mass almost equal to the mainland USA. So it really isn’t surprising that Australia has a great diversity of climates and soils. There are, in fact, 64 diverse and distinct wine regions (they call them Geographic Indications) across the six wine-producing states.
With a winemaking history dating back to 1788, Australia has developed regionally-specific wine styles, just like other wine-producing countries. These “Regional Heroes” identify the most renowned varietal or style from the region and their recognizable characteristics. They are definitely wines from somewhere rather than wines from anywhere. But can you tell the difference between a Yarra Valley Pinot Noir and a Tasmania Pinot Noir? What about a Clare Valley Riesling or Great Southern Riesling?

Now you can try to identify the distinctive flavors and aromas associated with some of Australia’s Regional Heroes wine styles. You can test your wine knowledge with Wine Australia’s new online wine tasting challenge. (Click here for the challenge!)
