The Geographical Indications Committee (GIC), which is responsible for considering application for the determination of Australian and foreign geographical indications (GIs), has made an interim determination of the Italian GI, Avola.

A notice of the interim determination is available here.

In accordance with the Wine Australia Act 2013 and the Wine Australia Regulations 2018, determination of Avola as a GI in Australia will not prevent the use of the term Nero d’Avola.

As set out in the notice, the GIC invites submissions on the interim determination of the GI ‘Avola’ with submissions to be received by no later than 5:00pm on Friday 9 November 2018.

Submissions should be addressed to:

  • Rachel Triggs
  • Registrar of Geographical Indications and Other Terms
  • rachel.triggs@wineaustralia.com
