Wine companies can learn practical skills to grow their businesses as a $2 million investment in capability development for the Australian wine sector comes to life in October 2018.

The Growing Wine Exports and Growing Wine Tourism programs are practical and wine-specific workshops and webinars that will run from 2 October.

A key focus of the programs is helping new and experienced wine exporters – and wine businesses more broadly – to benefit from Australia’s strong wine export growth and the growing visitor economy.

Wine Australia Chief Executive Andreas Clark said, ‘These programs are about opening the door for Australian wine businesses to secure new commercial opportunities and grow their wine exports and tourism.

‘With overall wine export value up 20 per cent in the last 12 months – and our significant investments in China- and USA-focused marketing thanks to the $50 million Export and Regional Wine Support Package – the time is right for businesses to push hard and capture export and tourism opportunities.

‘Whether you’re looking to develop or fine-tune your export strategy – or convert a cellar door wine purchase into a liquid postcard for your region – these programs are designed to help you grow your business’, he said.

The programs are a key component of the Australian Government’s $50 million Export and Regional Wine Support Package, designed to complement Wine Australia’s targeted China- and USA-focused marketing campaigns and grant programs.

About the programs:

  • Growing Wine Exports is a practical, hands-on and wine-specific skills development program for new and experienced wine exporters looking to grow their exports in key markets. The program comprises one full-day Export Ready workshop (focused on developing your export strategy or giving it a 'health-check') and a two-day Export Plan workshop (focused on refining your export plan and targeting commercial or growth opportunities in-market). Workshops start from 2 October 2018. Register here.
  • Growing Wine Tourism is for businesses wanting to take a more strategic approach to developing their wine tourism products and services. The program is made up of three phases. The first phase, ‘Understanding the visitor economy’, will be delivered through two pilot workshops and live, interactive webinars in each state. Activities start from 9 October 2018. Register here.

The latest Export Report for the year ending June 2018 showed 20 per cent growth in the value of Australian wine exports to $2.76 billion – the highest growth rate in 15 years – and the average value of wine growing by 9 per cent to $3.24 per litre (its highest value since 2009).
