Communications Manager – Americas

Wine Australia is the Australian Government service body for the Australian wine and grape community. The office based in San Francisco supports the continued effort to establish Australian wine as a major player in the dynamic North American wine market. This is achieved through a variety of activities covering events, media, trade engagement and PR.

The Communications Manager will be responsible for the planning, development and implementation of Wine Australia’s marketing communications and public relations activities to stimulate enthusiasm, advocacy and endorsement for Australian wine among key target audiences in the Americas. 

Working collaboratively with the Head of Market, Americas and the Global Marketing Communications Manager, the Communications Manager for the Americas will plan and drive consistent on-brand and on-message communications and best practices for events and other marketing campaigns across all traditional and non-traditional communication channels. 

Responsibilities include:

  • Development of key communications around campaigns to ensure clarity of messages and positive media results 
  • Execution of local PR and communications strategy, aligned with the global strategy and working closely with head office marketing team based in Sydney, Australia
  • Development and amplification of relevant content for key media, influencers and stakeholders in market to drive the Australian category 
  • Development of media materials, including media releases, backgrounders, fact sheets and newsletters, EDMs
  • Management of interview requests and spokesperson briefings ahead of media opportunities 
  • Become a brand advocate and ensure all communications and collateral is aligned with Wine Australia brand guidelines 
  • Own and manage media database and proactively pitch stories about Wine Australia campaigns and Australian wine 
  • Identify media and event partnership and sponsorship opportunities and manage execution
  • Identify opportunities for key influencers / media to collaborate with Wine Australia and develop content for our channels
  • Identify media and influencers to visit Australia as part of the visits program 
  • Work with Digital team to develop content and material for Wine Australia channels 
  • Develop and manage photography and videography briefs 

Skills and experience:

  • Minimum of five years experience in wine marketing, communications or public relations role 
  • Strong creative, strategic and analytical skills
  • Excellent written & verbal communication skills with the ability to develop a variety of targeted, engaging content and communications
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects/events from start to finish with minimal supervision
  • Ability to work nights and some weekends as required
