The Australian Geographical Indication "Grampians" was entered in the Register of Protected Names on 16 June 1997 in response to a direction received by the Registrar from the Presiding Member of the Geographical Indications Committee acting under Section 40Z of the WAC Act 1980.

GI textual description:

The Geographical Indication "Grampians" is located in the zone Western Victoria, within the State of Victoria, Australia.

The beginning point of the boundary is located on the northern boundary of the Western Victoria zone, at the intersection of the Mount William Creek and the southern boundary of the Marma State Forest, Map Horsham 7324 at Grid Reference XE308305, and proceeds in a straight line east leaving Map Horsham 7324 at Grid Reference XE339303. To Map Rupanyup 7424, at Map Grid Reference XE339303 and continue east, in a straight line, along the Bismark Lubeck Road, to join the Stawell Donald Road at Map Grid Reference XE593298, continue east along the Stawell Donald Road in a straight line to Map Grid Reference XE617298, continue in the same straight line to its intersection with the Glendemar Road at Map Grid Reference XE698297, then along Glendemar Road to Map Grid Reference XE753296. Proceed north easterly along Glendemar Road to its intersection with the Kanya Navarre Road at Map Grid Reference XE758300. At this point, the Grampians Region boundary becomes the shared boundary with the Pyrenees Region. Follow the Kanya Navarre Road south easterly to leave Map Rupanyup 7424 at Map Grid Reference XE784266. To Map St Arnaud 7524 at Map Grid Reference XE784266. Continue south easterly along the Kanya Navarre Road to its intersection with Navarre Road at Map Grid Reference XE857140, then east along the Navarre Road till it meets Boundary Road at Map Grid Reference XE876140. Proceed south along Boundary Road to its intersection with the Landsborough Navarre Road, at Map Grid Reference XE868089, follow the Landsborough Navarre Road in a southerly direction to Wattle Creek Road, Map Grid Reference XE864070, proceed west, south then west along Wattle Creek Road to the Landsborough West Tulkara Railway Road at Map Grid Reference XE831064. Follow the Landsborough West Tulkara Railway Road south to leave the St Arnaud Map Sheet at Map Grid Reference XE830032. To Map Beaufort 7523 at Map Grid Reference XE830032, proceed south and then south west along the Landsborough West Tulkara Railway Road to the Landsborough Road at Map Grid Reference XE824016 to the top of the ridge line at Map Grid Reference XE870017. Follow the ridge line in a south easterly direction via the 427 metre hill top until the ridge line intersects with the Ararat St Arnaud Road at Map Grid Reference XD885995. Continue southerly along the Ararat St Arnaud Road to the township of Crowlands. Continue through the township along the Ararat St Arnaud Road until its intersection with the Wimmera River, at Map Grid Reference XD868859. Follow the Wimmera River in a generally easterly direction until its intersection with the Pyrenees Highway (122), at Map Grid Reference YD009822. Follow the Pyrenees Highway (122) to the Elmhurst Beaufort Road at Map Grid Reference YD013819, then along the Elmhurst Beaufort Road in a generally south direction to the southern boundary of the Mount Cole State Forest, at Map Grid Reference YD029688, then continue in a generally west direction , then south along the State Forest Boundary to its intersection with the Raglan Mount Cole Road at Map Grid Reference YD029647., then follow the Raglan Mount Cole Road south easterly to its intersection with Starr’s Road at map grid Reference YD039639, then follow Starr’s Road south to its intersection with the Western Highway (8), at Map Grid Reference YD034577. At this point the Grampians Region leaves the shared boundary with the Pyrenees Region. The Grampians boundary proceeds west along the Western Highway (8) to Middle Creek, at Map Grid Reference XD992594. Follow Middle Creek south westerly then west to Map Grid Reference XD900552, proceed south along the XD900 Grid Line to leave the Beaufort Map Sheet at Map Grid Reference XD900475. To Map Skipton 7522 at Map Grid Reference XD900475, proceed south along the XD900 grid Line to the Beaufort Streatham Road at Map Grid Reference XD900392, proceed in a south westerly direction along the road to the Glenelg Highway (112) at Map Grid Reference XD829271, cross the Glenelg Highway (112) and continue south westerly along the Streatham Woorndoo Road to leave the Skipton Map Sheet at Map Grid Reference XD762178. To Map Willaura 7422 at Map Grid Reference XD762178 to proceed south westerly along the Streatham Woorndoo Road to the Bolac Plains Road at Map Grid Reference XD591052, then south along the Bolac Plains Road to the Mortlake Ararat Road at Map Grid Reference XD589044, then west along the Mortlake Ararat Road to Woorndoo at Map Grid Reference XD580045, then west along the Woorndoo Chatsworth Road to the Chatsworth Wickliffe Road at Map Grid Reference XD452086, through Chatsworth, to continue south west along the Caramut Road to the Chatsworth Hamilton Road at Map Grid Reference XD430072, then west then north west along the Chatsworth Penshurst Road to leave Willaura Map Sheet at Map Grid Reference XD321140. To Map Hamilton 7322 at Map Grid Reference XD321140, proceed west along the Hamilton Chatsworth Road to its intersection with the Blackwood Dunkeld Road at map Grid Reference XD207164, then north along the Blackwood Dunkeld Road to Back Creek at Map Grid Reference XD204271, then west along Back Creek to the Penshurst Dunkeld Road at Map Grid Reference XD154272, then north along the Penshurst Dunkeld Road to the intersection of the Glenelg Highway (112) at Map Grid Reference XD155314. Continue north westerly across the Glenelg Highway (112) along the Dunkeld Cavendish Road to Bundol Road at Map Grid Reference XD128328, then north easterly along Bundol Road to the Wannon River at Map Grid Reference XD140345, then north westerly along the Wannon River to the Victoria Point Road at Map Grid Reference XD063459, then north easterly along Victoria Point Road to the south west corner of the Grampians National Park (shown on this map as State Forest) near Victoria Point at Map Grid Reference XD067462, then northerly along the western boundary of the Grampians National Park to leave the Hamilton Map Sheet at Map Grid Reference XD064489. To Map Grampians 7323 at Map Grid Reference XD064489 to continue along the Grampians National Park western boundary to the Henty Highway (107) at Map Grid Reference XD050716, continue north along the Henty Highway (107) to the State Forest boundary near Cherry Pool at Map Grid Reference XD055915, then westerly along the State Forest northern boundary to the Black Range State Park at Map Grid Reference XD018932, then northerly along the eastern boundary of the Black Range State Park to Black range Road at Map Grid Reference XD016994, then north easterly along Black Range Road to the Mockinya Brimpaen Road at Map Grid Reference XE028010, then north westerly to leave the Grampians Map Sheet at Map Grid Reference XE012045. to Map Horsham 7324 at Map Grid Reference XE012045 to continue north along the Mockinya Brimpaen Road at Map Grid Reference XE013054, then west along unnamed road to Map Grid Reference WE996056, continue north along unnamed road to Map Grid Reference XE001089, then easterly along the Mockinya Brimpaen Road to the Henty Highway (107) at Map Grid Reference XE025085, then north along the Henty Highway (107) to the Rocklands Outlet Channel which is just below the 160 metre contour at Map Grid Reference XE014132, the generally easterly along Rocklands Outlet Channel, crossing the Western Highway (8), to Golton Creek at Map Grid Reference XE273221, then northerly along Golton Creek to Mount William creek at Map Grid Reference XE305279, then north along Mount William Creek to the starting point on the southern boundary of the Marma State Park at Map Grid Reference XE308305.
