The Australian Geographical Indication "Sunbury" was entered in the Register of Protected Names on 10 December 1998 in response to a direction received by the Registrar from the Presiding Member of the Geographical Indications Committee acting under Section 40Z of the WAC Act 1980.

The beginning point of the boundary is situated on Map Bacchus Marsh (Sheet 7722) at grid reference BU737268, being the intersection of Bacchus Marsh Road and the Bacchus Marsh Gisborne Road in Bacchus Marsh, then proceeds generally northerly along the Bacchus March Gisborne Road to its intersection with the Toolern Vale Road at grid reference BU764321, then proceeds generally easterly along the Toolern Vale (Diggers Rest–Coimadai) Road to the edge of map at grid reference BU793319; On to Map Melbourne (Sheet 7822) at grid reference BU793319 and continue generally northerly and then easterly along the same road to its intersection with an unnamed road at grid reference BU838340, then proceeds northerly along the unnamed road to its intersection with the Gisborne Melton Road at grid reference BU855383, then continues north easterly along the same unnamed road to the 410 grid line at grid reference BU880410, then proceeds easterly along the 410 grid line to its intersection with an unnamed road at grid reference BU895410, then proceeds south easterly and then generally easterly and then north easterly along the unnamed road to its intersection with the Calder Highway at grid reference BU928409, then proceeds north westerly along the Calder Highway to its intersection with the Counangalt Road at grid reference BU906436, then proceeds east of northerly in a straight line to the edge of map at grid reference BU914471;
