The Australian Geographical Indication ‘Upper Hunter Valley’ was entered in the Register of Protected Names on 29 July 2010 in response to a direction from Wine Australia pursuant to section 40ZD of the WAC Act.

GI area boundaries:

The Geographical Indication Upper Hunter Valley is a subregion located within the region of Hunter which is located within the zone of Hunter Valley which is within the State of New South Wales, Australia.

then proceeds in a westerly then generally northerly direction along the Goulburn River to Myrtle Gully at grid reference KK415224; then in a straight line to the Merriwa River at grid reference KK480278; then in a northerly direction along the Merriwa River to its intersection with Coulsons Creek at grid reference KK513470; then along Coulsons Creek to the edge of the map at grid reference KK557566; on to Blackville map (Sheet 8934) at grid reference KK557566; then in a generally northerly direction along Coulsons Creek to its intersection with the Merriwa to Willow Tree road at grid reference KK573672; then along the Merriwa to Willow Tree road to the edge of the map at grid reference KK634743;
