The Far From Ordinary Roadshow was one of the key activities during Far From Ordinary: Aussie Wine Month and offered access to trade, key opinion leaders and media, creating brand visibility in the US market.

Roadshow cities and dates

  • New York City – 19 September 2019
  • Chicago – 23 September 2019
  • Miami – 25 September 2019
  • Dallas – 27 September 2019
  • Los Angeles – 1 October 2019
  • San Francisco – 3 October 2019

Wines must be available and in distribution in each of the roadshow cities you participated in. 

Wineries seeking an importer were invited to participate in the Far From Ordinary New to Market Showcase, a tasting and networking event held in New York City.

Please note: Victorian producers who are also members of Wine Victoria are eligible for financial support to participate in the USA Far From Ordinary Roadshow. Funding towards the cost of a table will be reimbursed to eligible Victorian producers. Wineries will be contacted after the event with further details. Expressions of interest for the Far From Ordinary Roadshow opened 24 January 2019 ACST. Expressions of interest closed 15 March 2019. Wineries with existing distribution in the US as well as wineries seeking to enter the market were invited to express interest. State and regional bodies were encouraged to contact Wine Australia to discuss partnership opportunities. 

An exhibitor wait list was opened 15 March 2019 ACST and closed 31 May 2019 ACST. The wait list was invited to register pending availability following the close of registration.

Official registration opened on 5 April and closed on 19 April 2019 ACST.

The wines featured in the walk-around tastings in each city are selected by participating exhibitors. Seminar wines will be selected by Wine Australia.

Can wineries seeking distribution in the USA participate in Far From Ordinary: Aussie Wine Month?
A

Yes. Wineries seeking distribution in the USA are invited to exhibit at an importer meet and greet held on 18 September as part of the larger Far From Ordinary Aussie Wine Month activation in New York City. For more information, please review the FAQ – Far From Ordinary New to Market Showcase.

Will there be masterclasses? What is the selection criteria for masterclass wine selection?
A

There will be a trade focused educational seminars in each city. The seminars topics will be drawn from the Australian Wine Discovered modules and will be determined after exhibiting brands are confirmed in each city. A Wine Australia representative will reach out to your company if your wines are requested for the seminars. Wine selections will be based on the following criteria: suitability to the theme, premium example of type, market availability, and cross-section of price points.

Who is being invited to the event?
A

Trade, including but not limited to independent retailers, grocery chain retailers, wine directors, beverage directors, GMs, owners, Master Sommeliers of key restaurant/ bars, distributors, wine portfolio managers, educators, wine media and Sommeliers.

Do I need a visa as an exhibitor traveling to the United States?
A

Australians may travel to the United States for short visits for temporary business without a visa through the Visa Waiver Program (VWP).

In order to travel without a visa on the VWP, authorisation must be provided through the Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA) prior to boarding a United States bound flight. ESTA is a web-based system operated by U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) to determine eligibility to travel under the VWP to the United States for tourism or business. Visit the ESTA webpage on the CBP website for more information.

Exhibited wines must be in the $15 AUD and over price range and must be in current distribution in the markets you are exhibiting in. You may exhibit up to either 5 or 10 SKUs.

A

Can I bring along additional marketing materials to support my presence and booth?
A

No, please do not bring along any additional marketing materials. Wine Australia will create marketing collateral and signage for exhibitors in each city. The only items that will be accepted are flyers or tasting notes or if you have an iPad or tablet you wish to display on your table.
