The Somms of the World inspired tasting showcased over 50 Australian wines that some of the world’s best sommeliers enjoyed when they visited Australia
In April this year, Wine Australia hosted 50 sommeliers in Australia to coincide with The World’s 50 Best Restaurants awards. Over 650 Australian wines from 42 regions were showcased to the group, which included sommeliers from some of the best restaurants and bars in the world. At the end of the trip, each of the sommeliers nominated wines that excited and astonished them, bottles that they wanted to take home with them and some wines that they were just thrilled to have the opportunity to try.
Wine Australia sourced these wines to create the Somms of the World – Inspired Tasting and invited sommeliers, trade and media to discover the exciting collection of Australian wine. Over 58 bottles of wine were presented at the events and each was put forward by a sommelier on the Somms of the World trip. There was great feedback on the selection of wines available to taste and over 70 people attended event at Chiswick at The Gallery. Wine Australia also partnered with Wine Communicators to showcase the wines to their members and consumers later in the evening.
The Somms of the World – Inspired Tasting was a great representation of modern Australian winemaking, giving trade a chance to try some of Australia’s most coveted wines – from the classics to the experimental.
