The quality and diversity of Australian wine was celebrated at our largest ever Nordic Roadshow, held in Finland, Denmark, Norway and Sweden in October 2017.

More than 900 trade and consumers attended the Nordic Roadshow, which took place in Helsinki, Copenhagen, Oslo and Stockholm across two weeks.  Attracting a record number of guests, this year’s roadshow also showcased a record number of wines: over 1100 wines from 104 producers, representing more than half of Australia’s 65 wine regions.

The events programme comprised a trade-only master class, ‘Sustainable Australia’ hosted by Wine Australia’s Education Manager Mark Davidson, followed by a trade tasting and a consumer tasting.

The event in Sweden took place in Stockholm’s Grand Hôtel on 10 October and featured nearly 300 wines from 58 wineries. Some of the wineries were familiar names, but others were new discoveries, with 13 producers not yet in the Swedish market and seeking distribution. Winemakers that flew over from Australia to pour their wines in Stockholm included Andrew Watson (Woodlands Wines), Ben Heide (Patritti), Jenny Semmler (919 Wines), Hamish MacGowan (Angus The Bull), Peter Logan (Logan Wines), Steven Worley (The Hairy Arm Wine Co) and Tod Dexter (Route du Van).

New to this year’s roadshow was a focus table on Artisans and Sustainable Australia, hotly discussed topics and trends that are gaining momentum across the world. Guests got a sneaky peak into how the artisans and pioneering young guns are shaking up the Australian wine scene and learnt more about organic, biodynamic and sustainable winemaking.

With a broad range of styles and grape varieties, the reaction to the wines was very positive from guests who were impressed with the high quality and diversity.
