With a population of nearly 30 million people, Malaysia has become an important market for Australian wine and our wine export is currently valued at A$50.7 million and growing by 14 per cent (MAT August 2016).
Wine Australia together with our partner Austrade are organising the first New-to-Market Australian Wine Showcase in Malaysia, in response to the growing interest in premium Australian wine as the dining and hospitality scene in Malaysia changes rapidly. We expect 80-100 members of the Malaysian wine trade (half of who are wine importers) coming to this event to meet Australian wineries yet to be introduced to the Malaysian market.
The program is designed to provide the participating wineries with not only exposure to the key wine importers but also insights into the Malaysian wine market, with a structure (subject to change) as follows:
Day 1 PM – Kuala Lumpur Market Visit and Briefing led by Renee Lee, Austrade Kuala Lumpur’s Business Development Manager
Day 1 Evening – Networking dinner with Malaysian wine trade and media contacts (details TBD)
Day 2 PM – Wine tasting targeting importers and other wine professionals with influence upon importers
Post-event (timing TBD) - 30-minute debriefing with Austrade going over the prospective importers
The timing of this event coincides with the same event in Taiwan (earlier in the same week) so the group of participating wineries can travel to both cities.
