Taiwan is a growing market for Australian wine, with a population of 23 million people and described by Debra Meiburg MW as ‘unique, robust and eager’, our wine export is approximately A$18 million (largely comparably to South Korea) and growing by 10 per cent (MAT August 2016).

Wine Australia together with our partner Austrade are organising the first New-to-Market Australian Wine Showcase in Taiwan, where the consumption of wine has grown by 8.6 per cent annually since 2010. We expect 80-100 members of the Taiwanese wine trade (half of who are wine importers) to attend this event to meet Australian wineries yet to be introduced to the Taiwanese market.

The program is designed to provide the participating wineries with not only exposure to the key wine importers but also insights into the Taiwanese wine market, with a structure (subject to change) as follows:

Day 1 PM – Taipei Market Visit and Briefing led by Jennifer Chen, Austrade Taipei’s Business Development Manager

Day 1 Evening – Networking dinner with Taiwanese wine trade and media contacts (details TBD)

Day 2 PM – Wine tasting targeting importers and other wine professionals with influence upon importers
Post-event (timing TBD) – 30-minute debriefing with Austrade going over the prospective importers

The timing of this event coincides with the same event in Malaysia (later in the same week) so the group of participating wineries can travel to both cities.

  • Other: This is premium wine focused activity. Wines with accolade (eg. national/capital city wine show medals, positive score/ratings by leading wine critics, etc) are preferred. Wine must be grape wine without any fruit infusions, etc in order to be allowed to participate. No bulk, cask or private-brand (BOBs) wine is allowed in this tasting.
