San Francisco Winter Trade Tasting & Seminar 2018 06 Feb 2018
The Pearl, 601 19th St, San Francisco

More than 160 buyers and media came to Wine Australia’s annual Winter Trade Tasting in San Francisco this year, the strongest turnout since the event started in 2012.

Held once again at The Pearl in Dogpatch, the event kicked off with an education seminar followed by a walk-around tasting of close to 200 wines from a wide range of regions and exhibitors.

This year the seminar theme was “Australian Shiraz from Coast to Coast”, led by Wine Australia Americas’ head of education Mark Davidson with guest presenter Chuck Hayward. The line-up of 12 different Shiraz wines – from regions as far apart as Margaret River and Hunter Valley – explored in depth the extraordinary range of aromas, flavours and distinctive characteristics of Australia’s most famous and widely planted grape variety.

The walk-around tasting provided a kaleidoscopic snapshot of Australian wine in the US market today, with classic varieties like Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay flowing alongside Dolcetto and skin-contact Sauvignon Blanc from the Adelaide Hills, petillant naturel from the Riverland, and Viognier from Victoria’s Nagambie Lakes and South Australia’s Eden Valley.

Next stop on the Wine Australia Americas event calendar will be the Winter Trade Tasting in Toronto on 27 February 2018.
