The Australian Geographical Indication "Central Victoria" was entered in the Register of Protected Names on 1 May 1996 in response to a direction received by the Registrar from the Presiding Member of the Geographical Indications Committee acting under Section 40Z of the WAC Act 1980.

The Geographical Indication "Central Victoria" is located within the State of Victoria, Australia.

The beginning point of the boundary is located at the intersection of the western boundary of the Shire of Gordon with the southern boundary of the Shire of Kerang and proceeds generally south along the western boundary of the Shire of Gordon to its intersection with the western boundary of the Shire of Korong, and thence generally south along the western boundary of the Shire of Korong to its intersection with the western boundary of the Shire of Bet Bet, and thence generally south along the western boundary of the Shire of Bet Bet to its intersection with the western boundary of the Shire of Tullaroop, and thence generally south along the western boundary of the Shire of Tullaroop, and thence generally east along the southern boundary of the Shire of Tullaroop to its intersection with the western boundary of the Shire of Newstead, and then generally south along the western boundary of the Shire of Newstead and thence generally north and thence generally east along the southern boundary of the Shire of Newstead to its intersection with the southern boundary of the Shire of Metcalfe, and thence generally east along the southern boundary of the Shire of Metcalfe to its intersection with the southern boundary of the Shire of McIvor, and thence generally east along the southern boundary of the Shire of McIvor to its intersection with the western boundary of the Shire of Pyalong, and thence generally south along the western boundary of the Shire of Pyalong and thence generally east along the southern boundary of the Shire of Pyalong to its intersection with the south west boundary of the Shire of Broadford, and thence generally south east along the southern boundary of the Shire of Broadford to its intersection with the southern boundary of the Shire of Yea, and thence generally south east along the southern boundary of the Shire of Yea to its intersection with the southern boundary of the Shire of Alexandra, and thence generally east along the southern boundary of the Shire of Alexandra to its intersection with the western boundary of the Shire of Mansfield, and thence generally south along the western boundary of the Shire of Mansfield and thence generally east along the southern boundary of the Shire of Mansfield and thence generally north-east along the south-eastern boundary of the Shire of Mansfield, and thence generally north-west and then west along the north-eastern and northern boundaries of the Shire of Mansfield to its intersection with the eastern boundary of the Shire of Euroa, and thence generally north along this eastern boundary of the Shire of Euroa to its intersection with the eastern boundary of the Shire of Violet Town, and thence generally north along the eastern boundary of the Shire of Violet Town to its intersection with the eastern boundary of the Shire of Shepparton, and thence generally north along the eastern boundary of the Shire of Shepparton to its intersection with the southern boundary of the Shire of Tungamah, and thence generally east along the southern boundary of the Shire of Tungamah to its intersection with the Benalla/Yarrawonga Road, and thence generally north along this road through the township of Lake Rowan as also identified at Map Reference DV071855 on the Dookie – 8025 map and thence generally north along the Benalla/Yarrawonga road to its intersection with Burley Road located at Map Reference DA095124 and also shown at the south west corner of the Township of Yarrawonga map, and thence generally north along Burley Road and thence along a straight line extending the centre of Burley Road in a generally northerly direction to the intersection of this straight line with the River Murray (forming the Victoria / New South Wales Border) and thence as shown on the Victoria 1:1,000,000 map, generally west along the Victoria / New South Wales Border following the northern borders of the Shire of Yarrawonga, the Shire of Tungamah, the Shire of Cobram, the Shire of Numurkah, the Shire of Nathalia, the Shire of Deakin, the City of Echuca, and the Shire of Rochester with the Victoria / New South Wales Border, and thence generally west along the north-west border of the Shire of Rochester to its intersection with the northern and eastern boundaries of the Shire of Gordon, and thence generally west along the northern border of the Shire of Gordon to the beginning point.

The area so enclosed includes that part of the Shire of Alexandra excluding that area of the County of Evelyn lying within the Shire of Alexandra, and all of the Shire of Bet Bet, the Shire of Broadford, and those parts of the Shire of Cobram lying to the west of the described boundary, and all of the Shire of Deakin, the Shire of East Loddon, the Shire of Euroa, the Shire of Gordon, the Shire of Goulburn, the Shire of Huntly, the Shire of Korong, the Shire of McIvor, the Shire of Maldon, the Shire of Mansfield, the Rural City of Marong, the Shire of Metcalfe, the Shire of Nathalia, the Shire of Newstead, the Shire of Numurkah, the Shire of Pyalong, the Shire of Rochester, the Shire of Rodney, the Shire of Seymour, the Shire of Shepparton, the Shire of Strathfieldsaye, and those parts of the Shire of Tungamah lying to the west of the described boundary, and all of the Shire of Tullaroop, the Shire of Violet Town, the Shire of Waranga, and the Shire of Yea. The area so described also includes the City of Bendigo, the City of Castlemaine, the City of Echuca, the City of Maryborough, the City of Shepparton, and the Borough of Eaglehawk and the Town of Kyabram.
