Participants from Queensland’s Next Crop regional leadership program graduated on Friday 17 October.

Next Crop is funded by Wine Australia and enables regions to design and deliver their own bespoke leadership development program. Next Crop Queensland has been running since July and featured four modules focusing on foundational leadership, strategic marketing, people management and career planning.

Participants developed key competencies in personal effectiveness, team leadership, communication and strategic thinking.

The program emphasised experiential learning and project presentations to foster leadership growth within the Queensland wine industry.

All participants presented their project ideas at the graduation ceremony which was attended by members of the Queensland Wine Industry Association (QWIA), with Wine Australia’s Paul Turale, General Manager Market Development, and Jo Hargreaves, Senior Program Manager People Development and Leadership, joining online.

The program was funded by Wine Australia, with the support of the QWIA. It was championed by Ann Bourke, President of QWIA, and led by Anita Schneyder, Team & Leadership Consultant, Teams on Purpose. The participants comprised Jessica Lim, Andy Williams, Isabella Starky, Liam Elliott, Kerry O’Brien, Steven Gangemi, Nathalie Pelissier, Brad Allan and Aaron Stephan.

Jo recently presented to Barossa’s Next Crop participants during one of their sessions at the Barossa Cellar, explaining the role of Wine Australia and the opportunities and benefits of engaging in leadership development.

Barossa’s program is co-ordinated by Nicki Robins, Barossa Australia’s Viticultural Development Manager, and led by Jill Briggs from Affectus. The group is in the process of putting the finishing touches on a range of projects and will be graduating in January 2026.

Coonawarra’s Next Crop group will be graduating at the end of October while Victoria’s program will wrap-up on November 20.
