9th International Symposium of Oenology, Bordeaux, France and 34th World Congress of Vine and Wine, Porto, Portugal
Abstract
Renata Ristic travelled to Bordeaux, France to attend the 9th International Symposium of Oenology (OENO 2011), held between 15-17th June 2011and then to Porto, Portugal to attend 34rd World Congress of Vine and Wine (OIV 2011) held between 20-27th June.
Summary
OENO is convened every 4 years and is recognised internationally as one of the top symposia in the oenology field. OENO 2011 was divided into several main subject areas:
1. Plant and environment
2. Quality of grapes
3. Microbiology of grape and wine
4. Wine chemistry, processes, wine compounds with physiological effects
5. Sensory analysis and consumer interface
6. Nature and culture-different faces of winequality.
200 delegates from more than 20 different countries participated in the symposium via 47 plenary lectures and 61 short talks assembled within 6 workshops, as well as via 174 posters.
The presentations on both conferences covered a diverse range of topics and concepts providing new knowledge and concepts in viticulture and oenology. Opportunities to meet with other participants to discuss research interests, directions and potential for collaboration were utilised during conference breakout sessions, lunches, dinners and technical visits.
