Australian industry bodies

Australian Grape & Wine (AGW) 

This national association represents Australian grape and wine producers, offering leadership, strategy, advocacy and support to ensure the industry's sustainability and growth. AGW plays an important advocacy role for gender equity initiatives and efforts across the Australian wine sector through the Diversity, Equality & Inclusion in Wine (DEIW) Committee. 

DEIW Committee and Charter 

The role of the DEIW Committee is to advocate for gender equity, drive uptake of the Australian wine sector’s Diversity, Equality & Inclusion Charter and advise the sector’s Environment, Social and Governance (ESG) strategic plan regarding issues pertaining to DEIW. 

Wine Australia 

As the Australian Government's statutory authority, Wine Australia focuses on research, innovation, and market development to enhance the global competitiveness of Australian wine. Their role with respect to gender equity is identifying research gaps, funding research, and implementing extension and adoption campaigns to drive uptake of the toolkit. 

State and Regional Wine Associations

Australia's wine regions are represented by various associations that advocate for state and regional interests. These organisations play pivotal roles in supporting the Australian wine industry through research, advocacy, education and market development and will play a pivotal role in supporting DEI and gender equity approaches with local producers and businesses and sharing success stories.

Australian gender and DEI agencies

Workplace Gender Equality Agency (WGEA

WGEA is a Commonwealth government agency established by the Workplace Gender Equality Act 2012. The Agency's purpose under the Act is to: 

  • promote and improve gender equality (including equal remuneration between women and men) in employment and in the workplace
  • support employers to remove barriers to the full and equal participation of women in the workforce
  • promote, amongst employers, the elimination of discrimination on the basis of gender in relation to employment matters (including in relation to family and caring responsibilities)
  • foster workplace consultation between employers and employees on issues concerning gender equality in employment and in the workplace
  • improve the productivity and competitiveness of Australian business through the advancement of gender equality in employment and in the workplace. 

Their website contains a wealth of resources for employers, including a gender equality toolkit, and a gender pay gap analysis guide.

Australian Human Rights Commission (AHRC)

The AHRC is a statutory organisation, responsible for administering a range of anti-discrimination legislation, including the Sex Discrimination Act 1984. The Sex Discrimination Commissioner’s website contains a range of publications and guides relating to sex discrimination and gender equality.

Fair Work Commission (FWC) 

The FWC is Australia’s workplace relations tribunal. The website contains industrial instruments, as well as a range of information, including a small business hub.

Fair Work Ombudsman (FWO) 

The FWO provides information on wages and conditions of employment in Australia. The website includes fact sheets, templates and guides, including on flexible working arrangements.

Safe Work Australia (SWA) 

SWA develops national policy in relation to workplace health and safety, and workers’ compensation. The website covers an extensive range of WHS issues, including sexual harassment.

Diversity Council of Australia (DCA) 

The DCA is a non-profit peak body that promotes diversity and inclusion. The website contains a wealth of resources, including on gender equality. 

Australian Human Resources Institute (AHRI) 

AHRI is a professional body for human resource practitioners. The website contains research and resources, including a diversity, equity and inclusion maturity model.
