Report summary
The March 2026 Bulk Wine Monitor shows that Australian bulk prices for major red varieties in USD have remained stable whereas white varieties have decreased compared to last month, based on Ciatti bulk wine offer prices.
It has been two years since the surge in prices of red varieties in March 2024. Red prices have increased at a steady pace since the start of the year. The prices of Shiraz, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon have also continued to deviate from each other since end of last year, with Merlot recording the highest price at 52 cents (USD). As a result, for the first time in four years (since 2021), since February 2026, Australia no longer recorded the lowest bulk offer price by country for generic red at 40 cents and Merlot at 52 cents, overtaking Argentina in both cases.
Australia continues to record the lowest bulk offer prices in March by country for Shiraz at 47 cents (USD) and Cabernet Sauvignon at 49 cents (USD).
As for white varieties, Sauvignon Blanc was the only variety to record a decline from a year ago, down 11 per cent. Looking over a longer timeline, Australian Sauvignon Blanc has decreased by 38 per cent since its peak in February 2023 to 68 cents (USD). Other white varieties were up this month compared to March 2025: generic white (up 4 per cent), Chardonnay (up 2 per cent), Pinot Gris/Grigio (up 3 per cent) and Muscat (up 10 per cent).
