The rapid growth and development of Australian wine in the 1990s was driven largely by individuals: innovative and collaborative change-makers who contributed their knowledge and time to the greater good of the sector.

The Future Leaders program is the wine community’s peak personal and professional leadership program. It is designed for the next crop of those who are ready to step up and take their businesses and our sector to the next level.

If you’re one of the lucky few to be involved in this program you’ll hear from some of Australia’s best speakers on topics such as innovation, leadership and culture. You’ll connect with people from across the Australian grape and wine community, including our Future Leaders Alumni.

The Future Leaders program is run every two years. Applications for our next program will open in 2021.

Q
Who should apply?
A

If you’re ready to take your business and our sector to the next level, read on …

You will be early to mid-career and work in any section of the grape and wine community: you could be a winemaker or grapegrower; a business manager or marketer; a supplier or researcher.

The two things that you will have in common with other applicants is your open, creative, inquisitive mind and a demonstrated commitment to the wine sector’s success.

You will be ready to step up and be next and you’ll have a sneaky suspicion that you already are (or could be) an innovator, collaborator and change-maker.

Q
Is there an age limit?
A

No – we’re looking for people who are early to mid-career and have shown themselves to be an emerging leader of the sector, regardless of age.

Q
What will it cost?
A

The Future Leaders program is funded by the sector and supported by Australian Vignerons, Wine Australia and Winemakers’ Federation of Australia. Participants are expected to pay travel and accommodation costs.

Q
What career opportunities have Future Leaders had after graduating?
A

Since 2006 there have been more than 100 Future Leaders graduates. Many have taken roles at regional wine and grapegrower associations and some have also been appointed to national committees and boards.
