Attend the In Vino Analytica Scientia conference, Graz, and collaboration with colleagues at AgroParisTech

Abstract

Funding was provided to assist in travel costs associated with attending and participating in the Seventh In Vino Analytica Scientia conference in Graz, Austria and to further establish collaborative links with colleagues at AgroParisTech. Collaborative work in the field of chemometrics was undertaken, specifically decomposition of complex data sets arising from GC-MS analysis of wines; PLS-DA of UV-VIS and FT-IR spectra, modelling of PLS regression with associated y-block errors; Durbin-Watson criteria for interpretation of loadings.

Summary

The Seventh In Vino Analytica Scientia conference was held in the city of Graz, Austria commencing on the 21st July and finishing on the 23rd July 2011. This conference is held every two years to enable researchers, oenologists and professionals from around the world, to present their research outcomes from environmental concerns to vine, grapes and final products. Thus a forum specifically devoted to the analytical sciences associated with wine production that enables the promulgation of important research findings. The Seventh In Vino Analytica Scientia scientific program was organised into the following themes/topics with an invited keynote speaker for each topic followed by a series of proffered presentations by scientists who have been working in similar areas of investigation.

  • Chemical analysis and composition of grapes, wines and spirits
  • Chemical and biochemical reactions
  • Authenticity of products
  • Sensory analysis
  • Sensors and biosensors

In addition to the oral presentations, Posters pertaining to each of the themes listed above were presented. A total of 102 poster abstracts are recorded with the majority of these displayed for the duration of the conference.
