Travel support for international presenters at the ‘Below ground management for quality and productivity’ seminar 28-29 July 2011

Abstract

The Phylloxera and Grape Industry Board of South Australia (PGIBSA) and the Australian Society of Viticulture and Oenology (ASVO) successfully organised and ran the 'Below Ground Management for Quality and Productivity Seminar' in Mildura on the 28th and 29th of July 2011.

Summary

The Seminar packaged the world’s best presenters in the area of soils, soil health, organics, biodynamics, phylloxera, rootstock breeding and precision viticulture in a comprehensive two day seminar for the Australian wine sector.  Specifically, the funding provided via the Wine Australia enabled overseas presenters Dr Peter Cousins (USDA, Geneva, NY, USA), Dr David Smart (University of California, Davis, CA, USA) and Mr Seth Laurenson (Invermay Agricultural Centre, NZ).  The inclusion of these key international speakers into the program was important to give more international perspectives on these key Australian wine sector issues.

Over 220 people from across Australia attended the seminar at the Settlers Tavern in Mildura on the 28th and 29th July 2011.

The feedback from participants has been extremely positive about the speakers, the wine tasting, the two-day format and the social program.
