9th Pangborn Sensory Science Symposium, Toronto, Canada
Abstract
The 9th Pangborn Sensory Science Symposium was held in Toronto, Canada 4th to 8th September 2011 and attracted more than 750 delegates from more than 25 countries. The conference discussed Sensory and Consumer Science, with an emphasis on the following themes; Advances in sensory methodology, Cross-cultural sensory and consumer research, Effective use of sensory analysis / quality assurance, Food choice and consumer behaviour, Fundamentals of sensory perception and Multi-modal sensory analysis and integration across modalities.
Summary
This travel grant allowed me to attend and participate (via presentation of a poster) at the 9th Pangborn Sensory Science Symposium held in Toronto, Canada in September 2011. The Pangborn Symposium is an international meeting of sensory scientists to honour the work and contribution of Rose Marie Pangborn to the field of sensory science. The conference is convened every two years, and is recognised as the most important scientific symposium for the disciplines of sensory and consumer science. Over five days, the program contained 2 keynote presentations, 10 plenary lectures, 12 oral sessions, 6 workshops and 450 posters. 750 delegates from around the world attended the conference.
The symposium focussed on topics such as;advances in sensory methodology, food choice and consumer behaviour, new methods for consumer research, sensory properties for health and wellness, and sensometrics. A diverse range of presentations were given by researchers including a record number of oral and poster presentations from PhD students.
