The Institute of Masters of Wine (IMW) International Symposium will be held in Adelaide, South Australia from 15–18 April 2027. Over four days, delegates will explore key issues shaping the future of wine through tastings, presentations and discussion.
About the Symposium
The IMW Symposium is the IMW's flagship global event and is recognised as a leading forum for wine professionals, researchers and enthusiasts. The program features:
- World-class tastings
- Evidence-based presentations
- Industry debate and discussion
- Themed lunches and dinners
The event is open to all wine-interested participants; you do not need to be a Master of Wine to attend.
Program highlights
Confirmed sessions include:
- An exploration of how the wine sector can rebuild relevance, led by Matt Deller MW
- A review of the latest research on old vines, moderated by Sarah Abbott MW
- A debate on gene technologies in viticulture
- A discussion on maintaining wine balance in a changing climate
Tasting sessions will showcase exceptional wines and encourage critical reflection, including:
- A ‘unicorn’ tasting of rare and highly sought‑after wines, moderated by Andrew Caillard MW
- An old vines vs young vines tasting, with pairs of wines made specifically for the event
- A masterclass comparing cork and screwcap closures using identical wines bottled under each closure
