Be first to try new releases at Australia Day Tasting

12 Dec 2016

Wine Australia is inviting the trade to register for the Australia Day Tastings 2017 and be amongst the first in the UK to try brand new releases.

The Australia Day Tasting, the largest trade tasting of Australian wine in Europe, returns to London, Edinburgh and Dublin in January 2017. Across the three tastings, there will be over 1000 wines, from nearly 200 different wineries and brands, presented by around eighty exhibitors.

A must-attend event for the trade, the Australia Day Tasting provides an opportunity to meet the people behind the wines, discover new varieties and styles, learn about recent trends and glimpse into the future of Australian wine.

Visitors will be first in line to try new releases - not only the latest vintages, but also recently launched and soon-to-launch wines.

For the very first time, Jim Barry Wines will be showcasing the new Jim Barry Assyrtiko 2016, Australia’s first commercial wine made from the Greek grape variety. Jim Barry Wines Managing Director Peter Barry tasted Assyrtiko in 2006 whilst on holiday in Santorini. Following a lengthy process of importation and quarantine, the Assyrtiko was launched in Australia in November 2016. Now ready for official UK launch, the wine will be unveiled at London’s Australia Day Tasting on 24 January.

Thistledown, Wine & Spirit Magazine’s Australian “winery to watch” in 2016, will be launching the Blewitt Springs Grenache 2016 whilst Bob Berton will be presenting Berton Vineyards’ new Winemakers Reserve Fiano 2016. The prestigious Bird in Hand Winery will also be introducing their range, soon to be available through Seckford Agencies. Kym Milne MW, Chief Winemaker, will be pouring the wines at the London and Edinburgh events.

Kym Milne MW, Chief Winemaker of Bird in Hand Winery, said:

“I am looking forward to coming to the UK to showcase our wines and meet the press and trade in January. I have selected some of the wines which I’m most proud of and it will be great to be pouring them at the renowned Australia Day Tasting.”

Laura Jewell MW, Wine Australia Head of Market EMEA, said:

“After the success of last year’s Australia Day Tastings, we’re delighted to be back again this January, hosting even more wines, exhibitors and winemakers. With new wineries, product launches and bigger venues, this year’s events shouldn’t be missed. I’m confident that the tastings will show off the diversity of Australian wine and reinforce the country’s reputation as a premium wine producer.”

The Australia Day Tasting takes place in London (24 January), Edinburgh (26 January, Australia Day) and Dublin (30 January). Registration is now open at:
