Growing Wine Tourism is a sector-led skills development program for businesses wanting to take a more strategic approach to developing and delivering their wine products and services for inbound tourists.

The program is being delivered by the Australian Tourism Export Council (ATEC) in conjunction with Fastrak Asian Solutions and Wine Tourism Australia. It is made up of three phases which will be delivered throughout 2018-19, with the support of the Australian Government’s $50 million Export and Regional Wine Support Package (the $50m Package).

Phase 1 of the program - ‘Understanding the visitor economy’ - will commence from October 2018 with two face-to-face pilot workshops in New South Wales and Tasmania, and live interactive webinars in each State. The key focus of the sessions is understanding how the Australian wine sector can benefit from the growing visitor economy. Participants will have access to the latest tourism insights, which will help inform their business strategies.

How can I get involved?

  • Attend a face-to-face pilot workshop in the Hunter Valley (NSW) or Launceston (TAS)
  • Register for a live webinar in your State

Please note: additional face-to-face workshops and webinars will be delivered from the first quarter of 2019.

Face-to-face pilot workshops

Research indicates that food and wine are key drawcards for international visitors who are seeking natural, local produce experiences.  The incorporation of food and experiential elements alongside traditional wine tasting experiences over the last decade has increased the attractiveness of wineries and wine regions among international visitors.

These pilot workshops will focus on understanding the visitor economy – from the domestic and inbound traveller, to global wine tourism trends, industry research and visitor profiling.  The workshops are also an opportunity to test the program content and delivery ahead of the full program rollout in 2019.
