Tourism Tasmania has this week launched its international wine tourism campaign in San Francisco, as part of the Australian Government’s $50 million Export and Regional Wine Support Package (the $50m Package).

The international campaign is supported by $250,000 in funding through the International Wine Tourism State Grants program and $250,000 in matching state funds through the Tasmanian Government.

Guests of the launch experienced an ‘Evening of Indulgence’ showcasing Tasmania’s premium food and wine, while learning about the island state’s temperate climate and beautiful tourist locations.

Wine Australia Chief Executive Officer Andreas Clark said the international wine tourism grants have helped our states and regions to market their unique wine tourism offerings to the world.

‘We know that food and wine are big drivers for tourist activity, and with the right approach, tourism can be a great contributor to a winery’s bottom line.

‘These international wine tourism projects are shining the spotlight on Australia’s wine regions and the wonderful array of activities and experiences on offer to entice overseas visitors.

Background

The International Wine Tourism State Grants program – which closed 2 March 2018 – provided state wine industry associations with access to a pre-determined funding allocation. These funds were intended to support a collaborative, strategic approach towards attracting and maximising international wine tourism in their state. Funding allocations available for each state wine industry association were determined following consultations with the wine sector and state associations, and broadly reflect the value of production and number of international visitors in each state.

Applicants were required to provide matching funding on a dollar-for-dollar basis and applications were assessed by an independent Expert Assessment Panel, in accordance with the grant guidelines. Grants were approved by the former Minister for Agriculture and Water Resources.
